We start down the driveway in a tentative dance. The weather, shifting haphazardly from freezing to thawing, has turned our driveway into an obstacle course of icy patches mingled with random spots offering sure-footedness.
We're off to sell Girl Scout cookies for the first time door-to-door, bundled in our winter coats, gloveless and hatless for the first bit of our excursion. We warn one another to be careful-to not slip-and laugh as I slip just a little bit but catch myself before it becomes a fall.
We discuss what she should say in certain scenarios, when someone has already bought cookies from someone else, when someone buys cookies, when they ask if they pay now. She knows most of the appropriate responses and rolls her eyes a little at my queries. She's heard the speeches already.
After the first house and the first sale our conversation turns to other things. Big girl things.
Suddenly we're walking along and I'm not feeling as much like a parent who has to guide her child every step of the way. I see she knows some of the way herself.
She turns to me and asks if we should run. We do.

What a sweet, heartwarming story! I bet that memory will stay with you for a long, long time. =)
oh my that is incredibly sweet! What an amazing experience . Where do you find the time for girl guides too?
Chelle, Most of M's Girl Scout activities take place right after school in her school 2 Mondays per month...so it's really not any more effort on my part most of the time.
What a wonderful memory!
Sniff. They grow up so fast.
