A Real Mom

She makes the craft project or takes the trip that she really doesn’t want to do just to see her kids smile.

She longs for a close mommy friend to talk to if she doesn’t have one and thanks her lucky stars if she does.

Her heart breaks a little each time she hears of a child’s death.

Her heart aches for the child who loses a parent.

She’s terrified that her children will think that she doesn’t love them when she’s angry.

She sees the beauty in life through her children’s amazing vision.

She’s learned true forgiveness through her children.

She reads every book and magazine and scours Internet discussion boards for parenting advice, then does it her own way anyway.

She knows that to be a good mom she has to be good to herself too. And that being a mom doesn’t mean you’re no longer a woman.

She’s thankful that children generally rebound quickly from adversity or unpleasantness.

She wishes that she had more patience, no matter how patient she is.

She’s realized that love easily multiplies if you let it.

She knows, even as she longs to hold her children to her, that she must gently push them away.

She dreams that when her children are grown they will still seek comfort in her arms.

I wrote this to participate in the current blog blast. We were asked to write a post that shows our portrait of a mother and this is what came from my fingertips. Microsoft is celebrating mothers and mother's day with their "portrait of a mother" campaign. Find out more at

Great post! Sounds like it would go perfectly in one of your cards. Maybe you can have a series and each one has different line?
