I like that pumpkin color for your kitchen. We have that and it looks pretty nice. Besides, pumpkin in the kitchen... it just makes sense.
The pumpkin is really pretty. Those are both nice, warm colors. You could go with mainly pumpkin and use the red color as an accent. That sort of thing has worked well for me in the past. I'm with you, white is booooring.
