A day at the Science Museum

I went to the MN Science Museum today with my Mom, Sister-in-Law, 2 aunts and my cousin Chelsea. We went to see this.

I thought I would be grossed out. I wasn't. It really was very interesting. There is a section of babies and a pregnant woman, and that disturbed me a little, but it was still really interesting at the same time.

I saw lots of penises. And testicles. Testicles look really strange without skin. Like a couple of balls (literally!) just hanging from a couple of thin ropes.

I was surprised at the number of people who brought their young children. I would never have brought M and K. They'd have to be at least 10 or so I think.

We also saw the movie in the Omnitheater before the exhibit. That was interesting too. Did you know that until babies are 6 months old they instinctively know to not try to breathe underwater? They can also swim up to one yard. Then they have to have someone bring them to the surface to breathe.

Before we went to the museum we ate lunch at Cossetta's. All I can say...YUM! Italian food. An immigrant family started the restaurant years ago and the food is delish. They have a market also and you can buy stuff to bring home. I bought a pizza, some mostaccoli and some Vienna bread. (We went back after visiting the museum to buy stuff to bring home!) Highly recommend it. The line to order food was out the door when we went back. It's that good.

Where is Cossetta's? St Paul?
We are always looking for good places to eat.

So, lots of penises, huh? Were you embarassed looking at that stuff with your mom and SIL?

Nah, I don't get embarrassed by that stuff. I think I embarrass my Mom sometimes with the things I talk about...

We went to the exhibit this spring too. It really was an amazing thing to see. Waya, you don't have to be scared - it's not gross at all. It's more like a really cool science class. You can read what I wrote about it here if you want.

Jeff, thanks for the link to your post. I wondered how they got the arteries out of the body like that! It really wasn't gross at all. I forgot a lot of the time that they were real human bodies. Then I'd remind myself. I couldn't imagine knowing a family member was one of the "plastigens". Or signing up myself to be donated, knowing I'd be all sliced up...even though I'd be dead!

It was very worthwhile to see. And I was glad to read on your site, Jeff, that there were a lot of cigarettes abandoned after people saw the exhibit. I doubt that their decisions lasted, but hey, everyone has to start somewhere.

There were a lot of smoker cadavers. I suppose their bodies weren't much use as living donors so this was their way to donate their bodies to be of some use.

If anyone has a chance to go see it, definitely do. It's not gross, really. And it's very interesting.
