Goodbye 2010

I meant to write a year-in-review that we could read over and all 4 of you who regularly read the blog could say "oh yeah! I remember when that happened!" and we could marvel over how it seems like it just happened yesterday.

No, that's a lie. I totally forgot about writing any sort of recap of the year until someone on Twitter mentioned that they were working on writing theirs. Cool Zebras has fallen by the wayside the last few months...real life keeps getting in the way. Not that you're not real (all 4 of you) and not that I don't treasure every tiny little comment here still, I do. In fact, I still treasure comments so much that I think I might be blushing a little just thinking about it. But my time has been pulled in several directions this year.

My family is always the priority of course, and I will always love writing (I think) but this year more even than previous years, the camera has captured more of my time. I'm relearning the manual settings and all those technical terms from my college photography classes. It's more experimental than actual knowledge at this point because who wants to actually read instructions? And really, as long as the photo turns out okay who cares what the F-stop and aperture are? (Am I showing my basic lack of class as a photographer by saying that?) I also do very little post-editing of my photos. Perhaps it shows. Perhaps not. It's not that my photos don't require editing, it's more that I'm too lazy to do much editing. If the photo really didn't turn out, I delete it rather than mess with it.

So that's where I am with my "hobbies" at the end of 2010. The blog is playing second fiddle to photography. My Etsy shop? Sigh. I'm not sure where that will end up. I haven't done much card-making this year either. I'm considering a niche photography business now. I had my first "practice" client who paid for a DVD of my photos. I didn't charge for my time because I was experimenting. I will likely do a few more experimenting sessions (if I can get them) and see where it goes from there.

Every new year brings so many unforeseen changes. What will 2011 hold?

Confession: I wrote a recap piece tonight and back-dated it to 12/31 :)

I love your photos. I'd hire you if you lived nearby! Good luck with the business.
