Listening on an Almost-Spring Day

The squawk, then the thunderous knocking of the Pileated woodpecker drowns all other sound for only a moment before the titters of the nuthatch and the chickadee calling its name return.

Soft applause of wind whispering through leaves beckons, highway noise umuted by lack of foliage brings a smile and my son's joyful song as he plays, coatless, for the first time in months...all signs that Spring is coming and not a moment too soon.

Don't you think nuthatches sound kind of like a squeaky toy?

Coatless is good.

Nuthatches, woodpeckers, finches and chickadees pretty much dominate our birdfeeders! Love the sounds of all of them.
