Now starts the time of year that days shrink seemingly to a mere 3 or 4 hours, not because the days are that fantastic that they fly in a blur, but more because I have 268,892 things to do in addition to the normal 27,736 that were already on my to-do list.

The thing about that to-do list is that the majority of the things on it are not really necessary to do. They are things I'd like to do if I had the time at the exact same moment that I had the motivation and the energy. Rarely do the elements align that are needed to make things disappear from the list.

Instead of ticking off the items already on the list, I often add new items. Sometimes I add items I've already done just so I can cross them off.

The things that really, truly need to get done, always get done. I can think of very few times that I have failed to meet a concrete deadline.

Sometimes I need a push. My husband is good at nudging me along. Sometimes just the threat of him doing something for me (that I want to do in a certain way) is enough to get me rolling. I grumble about it sometimes, but I know he's only trying to help me. And I really do find lead in my butt more often than I should.

So as Christmas approaches and the days drive on at warp I will feel increasingly overwhelmed. But everything will get done. Except for the things that don't get done. But I'm not going to tell you about those things.

this is a crazy time of year! I usually make all my lists and then wait until the last minute and completely stress myself out. Maybe this year I'll start earlier ;)

hehe I love that you won't tell us ;)

I am trying to keep it all in perspective and make lists for the lists. I so need a kick in the bum!

I completely understand. It hit me really hard today that Christmas is a month away and I have done nothing to prepare. I hate that. I am never at this point, ever, and now I'm going to feel stressed. Where can I pick up one of those husbands who will nudge me in the right direction, hmm?

Oh, yeah. Definitely that time of year. Think I'm gonna have to get out my big NO stamp and say no to lots of things this holiday season. It's just not worth it to run myself ragged, having a new baby in the house this year.

My dad always tells me, "Little girl (yes, he STILL calls me that) you can only do what you can do. What doesn't get done, doesn't get done, and it's okay." Can you tell that I too am one of those people who continuously adds frivolous stuff to the to do list?
I'm liking Holly's NO stamp idea.
