Why is it that when a parent stays home with her children full-time she is considered to not have a job and she is considered non-essential when, at the same time, if both parents work the kids need daycare...which for the people who work there is a JOB and is definitely essential?
If it makes people feel better toward me, can't they just consider me my children's daycare?

10 people like me!:
Yeah I don't get that either.
Ah, but you're not taking care of THEIR children, you see, so you're not essential.
I always feel it when we're filling out tax forms and people who pay for day care get the childcare tax credit, but me? I'm just their mom, no W-2, no childcare tax credit, nothin'. It makes me sort of mad, you know?
Precisely...plain and simple!
(thanks for coming by my blog last week and for your comment! I appreciate it.)
Yep, staying at home is hard work. And working outside the home is also hard work. So both has its pros and cons. But I don't agree with anyone who thinks staying at home with kids is a walk in the park.
And while we're at it, Can't I just get a freakin paycheck for staying home? PLEASE?
I really don't appreciate it when people say their moms or friends are "just plain housewives." That for me is a tough job.
I salute you! =)
Most people look at me as if I am crazy to want to stay at home ... weirdos!
I think I love you.
I ask this question a lot. Really. It drives me batty.
I hear ya. Although now that I have done BOTH staying at home AND now working and using daycare, I can tell you that working outside the home and still trying to care for a child and a home is JUST AS EXHAUSTING as bringing home your newborn baby and not getting any sleep. Being a mom is just plain hard work, whether you stay home with them or not!
