When the Left Side Gets Jealous

I had my incision checked this morning. According to the doctor, it is looking good. There is still a one-and-a-half-inch hole in the right side of my abdomen, but it is healing, slowly.

I do not need to go in to have it checked again by OB. I can wait the 3 more weeks and just see my regular doctor at my 6-week post-partum checkup. Craig still has to continue to pack my wound twice a day, but he's doing such a great job of it that my wound is improving.

I haven't taken any pain medication other than ibuprofen or Tylenol since early Sunday morning so that I would be able to drive this week. (Can't drive while on narcotics you know!) Miss M had swimming lessons every day this week (not Friday though). She finished her last lesson this evening and passed to the next level.

We arrived home and I started some laundry and some food for supper. My dad was here watching K man for me since K likes to drive me insane if I take him to the lesson to watch. I went to sit down for a minute and my left side started to hurt.

Really hurt.

Miss M was concerned when she saw me crying. Is it your owie Mom? This is my child who had asked every day after D was born to see my incision. Last night she actually cried because Craig told her to look away before he would take the packing tape out of my wound. But I never get to see Mommy's owie! She got to see it last night. I think she's going to be a nurse or a physician.

No honey, it's the other side.

Craig got home from work and announced that we were having septic issues. Joy all around. (We're hoping it's just because of all the rain we've been getting. We shall see come tomorrow I guess.) M told Craig that Mommy's side hurt.

Craig, D, and I headed for the ER. My dad stayed with M and K.

Sitting in the waiting room at the ER, the pain got worse. Then it subsided almost to the point that I felt silly being there.

We stayed. I had blood drawn. I had a urine sample taken (with a catheter...fun fun). I had x-rays of my abdomen. I had a CT.

Roughly 4 1/2 hours later, we had a verdict.

I have a kidney stone. I'm back on narcotics for the pain. Now I have to wait to pass it, which is, apparently, excruciating.

Jealous, aren't you?

I get to strain my pee.

I was so looking forward to having a glass of wine while on vacation next week, but now that I'm on narcotics again, that's out of the question.

Oh well, someday soon.

And it could be worse. At least they think it will pass on its own so I shouldn't need surgery.

Good times.

Ugh - I've had kidney stones twice, and mine usually involved more throwing up and peeing than you described. Hopefully it will pass quickly!

Oh, no, Heather! That's too much at once.

I'm so sorry -- but glad there's a diagnosis and a treatment.

I am so sorry! That's pretty common after pregnancy, right? If my kids knew I got to strain my pee, they would want to do it too!

Oh, gee, it hasn't stopped. You sure didn't need this right before vacation.

On the up side, just think of all the junkies who are jealous you get to take narcotics legally.

Oh, no. That's just not fair. Maybe the universe is just really trying to ensure no more babies.

Hope you feel better soon.

A kidney stone!! That is totally unacceptable and unfair, after birth. Hope it all flows downward and away!
