Tonight M and I squeezed into her twin bed and read 3 books together. I'm surprised that my butt fit on the mattress next to M...I guess it's a good thing that her butt is very small.
When the books were finished and the flashlight by which we read extinguished we moved to the next phase of going to bed...the talk.
So, how's your throat feeling now?
Oh, it doesn't hurt anymore.
Well, that's good. I don't like it when my kids are sick.
Why not?
Well, because I love you and I don't want you to hurt. I want you to be happy and healthy.
Oh.
Did you know that I love you all the time? Even when I'm mad?
No.
Really? You didn't know that? Well I do. All. The. Time.
Do I still have to get a shot? (Flu shot)
Yes, you still need to get the shot.
So I don't get really sick and die?
Well, yes, I suppose so.
Would you really miss me if I died?
(Stab in my heart.)
Of course I would. I would miss you very, very much.
Would you miss me if you died?
Of course I would.
Did Great-Grandpa K get really sick and die?
Um. Well, yes.
Why?
That, I don't know.
Oh. I miss Great-Grandpa K.
Me too.
(My Grandfather, whom K is named after, died in 1989. I'm not sure why M keeps bringing him up lately.)

Oh, those before-bed conversations are the sweetest!
Again, one of my favorite reasons for blogging. You end up capturing things like this that would normally be forgotten after a few months.
Kids her age can sometimes become fascinated with death because they're just starting to understand what it means. I remember answering those same questions when my kids were little.
Hey, you are the number one top winner on my blog today. Congratulations!
I've had a few of those conversations. One guy asked if I would go to his funeral. Ugh!
I couldn't agree more that these conversations are so special.
Kids' memories amaze me!
Beautiful blog!! I miss Grandpa K. too!!-- KaB
