I am from a family of Veterans, both on my Mother’s side and my Father’s side…including my Dad.
I thought about enlisting myself, but was too afraid to leave my family. I’m really a coward at heart.
There is a Veteran’s Memorial in the city that I live. My Dad and maternal grandfather, and maternal great-uncle all have “pavers” there that list their names, dates of service or conflict, and branch of military. My biological paternal grandfather has his name listed on the wall, much like the Vietnam Memorial. He was killed in WWII when my Dad was only two.
My family has served our country and made great sacrifices. Not me. I just get the benefits of their hard work.
Thanks for my freedom Dad. And thanks to everyone who served and still serves.
You’ve given us all a great gift.
I had some photos of the handsome military men to post, but Blogger and Picasa are being tempermental.

Indeed.
I have not always agreed with our reasons for going to war, but I have ALWAYS admired and supported the people who volunteer to defend our country (including my father and brother).
We must remember to appreciate the freedoms that so many have fought for. I don't think I'd have the guts to get out there and do that. You never know, I guess.
Amen to that - and to all who have served as well.
